Research on electoral experience and civic activity in Armenia
To understand democratic processes in Armenia, it was important for an international organization to obtain an objective assessment of how citizens perceive the institution of elections. The project focused on studying voting motives and identifying barriers to political participation.
Research objectives
MCG analysts focused on studying the subjective experience of voters. The main task was to analyze citizens' views and expectations regarding the electoral process, as well as to determine the reasons for absenteeism (refusal to participate in elections).
Research methodology
The study was implemented in a qualitative format (online focus groups). To ensure representativeness, the sample was segmented by settlement type (urban/rural) and experience in voting. The implementation process included the following stages:
- Recruitment — searching for participants using the “snowball” method to involve citizens who usually ignore elections.
- Multi-level screening — rigorous selection of respondents to exclude any affiliation with the public sector or political parties.
- Technical adaptation — preliminary preparation of participants from the regions for stable operation on the Zoom platform.
- Group moderation — direct conducting of focus groups according to a specially developed scenario (guide).
Research results
Following the project, a methodological report and transcripts were prepared in English. The results allow the client to systematize data on the motives and barriers to public participation in elections, compare the specifics of electoral process perception among urban and rural residents, and coordinate their further activities on this basis.
