Research on the wellbeing of adults with Down syndrome in Ukraine
What can be done in order to improve the well-being of adults with Down’s syndrome in Ukraine? With this question MCG addressed Ukrainian National voluntary organisation Down Syndrome. In order to respond to this request, MCG has developed 2-step research.
- Qualitative stage involved conduction of in-depth interviews, for which was created a guide (questionnaire), oriented at parents, relatives and guardians of people with Down’s syndrome who are older than 17 and live in Ukraine. As a result of conducting this step, the customer received a report with a description of main features of lives of people with Down’s syndrome in Ukraine.
- Quantitative stage allowed relate received from in-depth interviews responses with a wider range of people with Down’s syndrome. created application, just as the guide, was focused on parents and guardians. As a result of analysis of the data, it was possible to evaluate demand for different types of leisure, educational and social activities. Find out how common are some of the features associated with Down’s syndrome.
Research results
As a result of conducting sociological research the customer received two reports in which from qualitative and quantitative positions were highlighted features of lives of adults with Down’s syndrome in modern Ukraine. Both reports included analysis of such areas as households, work, leisure and communication.
In conclusion, analytics provided recommendations on the most relevant, current and needed programs and activities, which NCO Down Syndrome and partner organisations can develop for their clients, to make their lives better.
As far as we know, that was the first research about adults with Down’s syndrome in the history of independent Ukraine.
